Where's the house?

Your postcode, or just the first half. We'll check we work there.

Then a few taps about the job, and where to reach you. About a minute in all.

It's what's underneath that lasts.

A driveway is only as good as what it's laid on. We dig out, lay a proper base and sort where the water goes before a single block goes down.

Then it's the part you see: the blocks or slabs, the edging and the steps, laid neat and level.

  • Block pavingGrey, red or mixed, with a border to finish it.
  • Porcelain and stoneLarge slabs for a cleaner look.
  • DrainageChannels and the right falls, so the water goes where it should.
  • Edging, steps and wallsThe details that make it look finished.

Do you need planning permission?

For a front garden, it comes down to where the rainwater goes:

  • You don't need planning permission for a driveway of any size if it's permeable, like gravel, permeable block paving or porous asphalt, or if the rainwater runs onto a lawn or border.
  • If it's more than 5 square metres of traditional, non-permeable paving with nowhere for the water to drain, you'll need planning permission.
  • To drive over the pavement you need a dropped kerb, and that's an application to your council.

We'll talk you through which surface works for yours, and how the water will drain, when we visit.

Questions

What people ask us.

Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?

Not if it's permeable, like permeable block paving or gravel, or if the water runs off onto a lawn or border. A non-permeable driveway over 5 square metres with nowhere for the water to go needs planning permission.

Do I need a dropped kerb?

If you'll drive over the pavement to get onto it, yes, and that's an application to your council.

How long does a driveway take?

It depends on the size and how much digging out there is. You'll get a timeline with your quote.

Who does the work?

Our own team, not subcontractors.

How much does a new driveway cost?

It depends on the size, the ground and the surface you choose. We'll come and see it for free, then give you a clear quote.
